Proverb of the Day--October 1st

I am going to do a series of devotionals for each day of October. I will be sharing a Proverb or two from that day's chapter with some commentary from various sources. So...I will start with today! :)

~Proverbs 1~

 

 



 "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

~Proverbs 1:7

 

To make young people such as they should be, let them have regard to God as their Supreme. He lays down this truth, that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; it is the principle part of knowledge; it is the head of knowledge, that is, of all things that are to be known this is most evident, that God is to be feared, to be reverenced, served, worshiped; this is so the beginning of knowledge that those that know nothing should know this.

"Hear, my son, your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching; indeed, they are a graceful wreath to your head and ornaments about your neck."

"Let [the obedience of] divine truths and commands be to us a coronet, or a collar of SS, which are badges of first-rate honors; let us value them and be ambitious of them, and then they shall be so to us. Those are truly valuable, and shall be valued, who value themselves more by their virture and piety than by their worldly wealth and dignity."
